Marcus started dancing at five years of age at the renowned O’Shea Irish Dance School in Dublin under the tutelage of Seamus and Áine O’Shea. During his competitive career he went on to win five Leinster regional titles, the Great Britain Championships and North American Championships before retiring from the competitive circuit in 2004, placing second at both the All-Ireland and World Irish Dancing Championships. Marcus has numerous Regional, National and World titles to his name in Ceili dancing also. Marcus went on to successfully pass his TCRG exam in 2004 and ADCRG exam in September 2013. He is currently the director of the Marcus Maloney School of Irish dancing in Meath.
From a very young age Marcus has been a show performer, beginning at age 9 at his very first International Dance Festival in France with the O’Shea’s. From those humble beginnings Marcus has gone on to perform all over the world with various Irish dance shows. Highlights include; Lord of the Dance 2003/2004, Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Tampa 2001-2005(Lead dancer and Dance Captain) and Riverdance 2005-2012. Since graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 with an honours degree in Business and Economics, Marcus has been performing and teaching full time. In 2008 Marcus was one of only two dancers chosen to accompany the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese on an Official State visit to Romania. Other performance highlights include performing in 2011 for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her historic first state visit to Ireland and performing at Radio City Music Hall New York on St. Patrick’s Day in 2010. Marcus is the current Irish dance choreographer and Director of “Celtic Fyre” at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Virginia, USA.
