Sean O’Brien is currently one of the world’s leading exponents of Irish Dance Music. Over a 20 year period Sean has played at Irish dance competitions across 5 continents and has performed at every major championship around the globe. He is one of the most sought after Irish dance musicians currently on the circuit due to his dynamic, rhythmic style of playing as well as his versatility in comfortably and competently moving between the accordion and piano.
Also an accomplished Irish dancer, winning both State and Australian titles, Sean toured worldwide as a dancer with Riverdance’s Liffey company from 2001 to 2004. Towards the end of this time he worked closely with the show’s band, playing piano on his final tour in ’04.
Sean’s unique musical signature as well as his adaptability is due partly to his experience in working with many musical genres outside the world of traditional Irish music. A classically trained pianist and accordionist, Sean worked and performed as a songwriter early on in his career, developing a great understanding and appreciation for the art of composition, arrangement, production and live performance.
That development continued steadily over the years as his musical career flowed from genre to genre. In 2005, Sean moved to London, England, and was instantly swept up by the unrestrained musical energy of the city. For the next 10 years he worked as a session musician and producer, working with a number of genres including latin funk, pop, folk, musical theatre, psychedelic trance and tech house, just to name a few.
Sean is presently the co-creator and director of the FEIS App – a revolutionary music streaming app dedicated exclusively to Irish dance. The 28 best selling volumes of Irish dance music that he’s produced since 2011, along with a catalogue of his brand new Irish dance music can be found on the app. Sean currently resides in Calgary, Alberta with his wife Barbara and his step kids Stella and Simon.
The Feis app is available on the App Store and Google Play.
